appreciably constrains collapse models

چکیده
LISA Pathfinder’s measurement of a relative acceleration noise between two free-falling test masses with a square root of the power spectral density of 5.2± 0.1 fm s/ √ Hz [1] appreciably constrains collapse models. In particular, we bound the localization rate parameter, λCSL, in the continuous spontaneous localization model (CSL) to be at most (2.96 ± 0.12)× 10 s. Moreover, we bound the regularization scale, σDP, used in the Diosi-Penrose (DP) model to be at least 40.1 ± 0.5 fm. These bounds significantly constrain the validity of these models. In particular: (i) a lower bound of 2.2 × 10s for λCSL has been proposed in [2] (although a lower bound of about 10s is sometimes used), in order for the collapse noise to be substantial enough to explain the phenomenology of quantum measurement, and (ii) 40 fm is larger than the size of any nucleus, while the regularization scale has been proposed to be the size of the nucleus [3, 4].

LISA pathfinder appreciably constrains collapse models
Spontaneous collapse models are phenomological theories formulated to address major difficulties in macroscopic quantum mechanics. We place significant bounds on the parameters of the leading collapse models, the continuous spontaneous localization (CSL) model, and the Diosi-Penrose (DP) model, by using LISA Pathfinder’s measurement, at a record accuracy, of the relative acceleration noise betw...
متن کاملExperimental Investigations into the Collapse of Simple and Reinforced Thin-Walled Channel Beams under Bending Loads
In this paper, collapse behavior of simple and reinforced thin-walled channel- section beams, subjected to three- point bending, is investigated. Many simple channel- section beams of different geometry and some reinforced ones were tested, and their strengths after collapse were obtained thoroughly. Since the available theories in this area are complicated and little attention has been paid to...
متن کاملEffect of degradation on collapse margin ratio of steel moment frames
Although several studies have investigated the effect of degradation on the behavior of structures, investigations on collapse margin ratios are rare in the literature. In this study, the effect of strength and stiffness degradation on collapse capacity of steel moment frames is investigated. The aim is to determine margin of safety against collapse using a probabilistic approach. For this reas...

متن کاملInvestigation of the Progressive Collapse Potential in Steel Buildings with Composite Floor System
Abnormal loads due to natural events, implementation errors and some other issues can lead to occurrence of progressive collapse in structures. Most of the past researches consist of 2- Dimensional (2D) models of steel frames without consideration of the floor system effects, which reduces the accuracy of the modeling. While employing a 3-Dimensional (3D) model and modeling the concrete slab sy...
